    Born and raised on his family's farm in Champaran, Bihar, India in 1953, Jha studied physics at Delhi University until deciding to work on the family farm in 1970.

    In Rajneeti, even though Katrina is not polished in her Hindi accent, Prakash Jha asked her to deliver a long lenghty dialogues in chaste Hindi and to learn them by heart.
    Katrina then disappeared for hours. Then just before the final take, Jha asked Katrina to speak the dialogues. To everyone's surprise, Katrina mouthed her dialogues without a single mistake.

    Prakash Jha joined Ramjas College, Delhi University to do B.Sc (Hons) in Physics; though he left studies after one year, and decided to go to Bombay and become a painter.

    In Rajneeti, reportedly a song sung by Rashid Khan was to be picturised on Nan Patekar. Due to some reasons, the song got erased so Prakash asked Nana to sing the song himself and that it will be dubbed later. Nana got furious and straight away took off on him in his vanity van. Frustrated Prakash, decided to chop off Nana's role from the movie.

    Prakash Jha joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune in 1973, to do a course in Editing, though midway through it, the institution was closed for while, due to student agitation, so he came to Bombay, and started working, and completed the course in 1976.
