Have you heard the name of music director duo Nanigopal-Arunabha?
I am sure you are acquainted with the names of Debasish-Partha or Jayanta Laha. They are respectively the script writer and editor.
Do you know who is Biswanath Chakraborty? He is an film director.
Do you know the names like Pratik and Koel Banerjee? They are hero and heroine of Bengali film.
These all unknown people flocked together to make a Bengali cinema “Prem Bandhan”. Only there are two know faces with known names in this two hour long movie and they are Dulal Lahiri and Tamal Roy Choudhury.
“Prem Bandhan” is the story of “Prem” (Pratik) and Anjali (Koel). Prem’s father (Dulal) is a rich businessman but one fine evening he stunned everybody including his son, his daughter and their “kajerlok” by introducing a middle aged lady as second wife. Prem left his house the same night and reached North Bengal the following morning, where in a tea garden Anjali, the daughter of school teacher was singing a song. Prem was passing through that garden and it was love at first sight.
The story after this rolls on a much teated path until the US returned villain appears. He is a son of local businessman Tamal Roy Choudhury. The villain wanted to marry Anjali. The villain and his sidekicks threatened the school teacher so that he agrees to marry her daughter with the villain.
In the meantime a new came to Prem that his sister is ill. He rushed to Kolkata. His sister informed Prem that his father was not a bad man, he was forced to marry again just to save the lady.
Oh, I forgot to mention that there is also another known face Subhasish Mukherjee, who is the source of comedy of the film. He plays the role of Prem’s friend. He informs Prem that Anjali is in trouble. So, Prem returns to North Bengal again.
To cut the long story, after a brief “dhishum dhishum”, Prem rescues Anjali from the clutch of the villain and his gang.
This was the 119th minute of the film. Whel all the spectators thought all is well that ends well, the dramatic twist happened in the last minute.
The happy couple were ready to embrace for the happy ending last frame of the film. Suddenly appears Tamal Roy Choudhury with a gun in his hand. He shot twice and both Prem and Anjali died, and the last 60 seconds the film ends in a tragic note.

    But Why..??

    Answer is simple….God Knows!!
