Prabha Debi was born in Kolkata on August 12, 1903. Her mother’s name was Bindubhasini Debi. She could not continue her studies due to her family problems. She learnt singing.
She made her debut in silent movie “Matri Sneha” in 1923 directed by Jyotish Bandopadhay. Her first talkie film was “Palli Samaj” directed by Sishir Kumar Bahduri in 1932. She spent her childhood in the company of Tinkan Dasi. She acrted in commercial stage. She was a regular actress of Sishir Bhaduri’s drama unit. In 1930 she visited United States of America with that troupe. She married Tarakumar Bhaduri, brother of Sishir Bhaduri. She was mother of four sons and two daughters. Actress Ketaki Dutta and Pratibha Neogi were her two daughter. One of her sons was actor Tapan Kumar. She was associated with All India Radio since the day of inception August 27th, 1927. Prabha Debi died on November 8, 1952.
