My Rating

  • Politics…is always interesting!!!

Raajneeti rating: 7 out of 10(Aakash Barvalia wrote on 08 Jun 2010)

Though Prakash Jha is already so good to describe politics in his own terms, whether it would be in “Apaharan” or in “Gangajal”. So it was but obvious that this film, with so many super cast n crew the story will be rough and tough.
When the word politics comes in our mind, who wouldn’t remember the origin of the word so called “Politics”. The one and only one, Legend “Mahabharata”. “Raajneeti” is a mixture of the Legend Mahabharata and the Current scenario in the world of politics. So it’s as simple as that, if you still love to watch Mahabharata, and also interested in social drama genre, then I prefer better not to miss this one.

As we all know the conflict between Kauravas and Pandavas, the same is being described here, the conflict between two family. Arjun Rampal and Ranbir Kapoor are playing their role on the Pandavas side; whereas Manoj Bajpai is playing his role on the Kauravas side. Ajay Devgan plays the role of Karan, and Nana Patekar as Shree Krishna.

Now one can guess the whole story of the film, including the climax. But what’s more important here is the way it’s being picturized. The political language, the dirty politics shown, and the war in the political world.

    My comment:
Prakash Jha has mixture well the legend Mahabharata and current scenario in the world of politics. His direction made an impact about what’s currently going on and how dirty politics is being played in our current scenario. Though the movie is so good but still there are many negative points also. Let’s see what are they…

    Minus Points:
    1. First and the major one, its length.
The overall film is too much prolonged and the screenplay of the film is being little of stretchy. Three long hours of movie, with no songs, and only drama. Ofcourse Prakash Jha has been gripped quite effortlessly the entire movie, but still there will be one point where you will feel bore sometimes.

    2. And now this means, unnecessary addon’s of the extra scene which were I think were of no use and not at all related to the actual story.
For example, Ranibir’s and Katrina’s love story was being extra stretched; again and again intimate scenes were being shown unnecessarily, firstly between Arjun Rampal and Shruti Seth, then between Arjun & Katrina, and again between Ranbir and the foreign actress Sarah Thompson. Also again and again showing the drunken behavior of Manoj Bajpai. Whenever something goes wrong, he gets drunk and throws bottle or glass. And like these, there were many.

    3. Thirdly, there were many loose and clumsy dialogues.
Such as for example I still remember that scene where Ranbir’s mother is opening her secret to her first child, i.e. to Ajay Devgan that he is her son. It was looking like I am watching some 60’s kind of film. And in that scene her performance, my goodness, the whole image of the film were moving down.

    4. Also I would like note some negative points of the screenplay also.
The scene where Nana Patekar gets to know that Ajay Devgan is the first child of Ranbir’s and Arjun’s mother. Very loose script and very loose dialogues. Can’t describe that scene, I am laughed silently at the theatre and still laughing while writing.

    5. And lastly, there were minus points in the direction department also.
Just can’t believe that the super talented Ajay Devgan is being wasted here. In the entire movie, I guess he was just said to behave like a spectator. He played the role of Karan in Mahabharata, and Karan was the real backbone of the legend Mahabharata. Sadly Ajay didn’t get much scope here, as I believe there was not much written in Ajay’s role. Also the “repetitive” act shown by Katrina joining hands in front of public at the end where looking like so funny. The intensions to show that part of the climax was just amazing, but I think it was being presented in a little bit of funnier way, especially the start of the Katrina’s speech towards audience in the climax.

Rest, everything was great. Right from the power packed performances by everybody, till the overall script, story and the direction. Also the background music and the all the technicalities from the technical department were also very effective and too good according to the flow of the story.

    Final verdict:
If you still love to watch Mahabharata, and still love to watch any political social drama movie; then I am sure you will definitely like this film, also will definitely watch this film over and over again.

    3.25 / 5
