Raater Rajanigandha is a film which has been stuck for the past couple of years as it had been produced by a chit fund but now a leading producer has taken over the film and so the film has finally released.

The film has an unusual pair in the form of Rituparna Sengupta and Rajesh Sharma where Rituparna plays Putul,a girl from a village who comes to the city and is confronted with a series of misfortunes . After being homeless, she comes and seeks shelter in the house of Lakhua, her neighbour from her village who helps her to get a job at a hotel where she meets Bhulu(Rajesh Sharma) ,a guy with shady connections . They fall in love and marry, however fate has something else in store for them. Bhulu is injured in an accident which leaves him crippled and then Putul has to sell her body and soul to take care of expenses. The twist in the tale later on changes the story completely.

The film is a take off from Chameli but is no match to the former as it loses it’s way after a while. The film tries to highlight sex and eroticism with the help of it’s posters to draw in the crowds but lacks any credible storyline or screenplay to back it up. The film tries to project and portray the vulnerability of a lady in distress from an impoverished background who becomes a sex worker but no attention has been paid to the details or storytelling and the end result is very poor and tacky. Both the leads, Rajesh Sharma and Rituparna Sengupta perform creditably but when the story , screenplay and everything else is bad, it is of no fault of the artistes.
