    Abaas Mustan the director duo are known for their Hollywood style action thrillers. They started with some fantastic films and delivered super hits like ‘Khiladi’, ‘Baazigar’, ‘Soldier’, ‘Ajnabee’, ‘Humraaz’, ‘Aitraaz’, etc back to back. But, then there was a phase where they started to fade out and were total predictable with films like ‘Taarzan-The Wonder Car’, ‘Naqaab’, ’36 China Town’, etc. Just when everyone thought that these film makers are finished, they came up with a thriller which had loads of twists and turns, with multiple suspense angles along with foot tapping music and gala of stars in ‘Race’. Though the movie had plenty of flaws but on overall basis it was a proper fast entertainer and the viewers showered their love by making it a super hit. The concept was so foolproof that even in the era of SMS and social media, the suspense element was not ruined. Now after a huge gap of almost five years the duo returns with a sequel – ‘Race 2’ with more star power and promising to be as crispy as its predecessor. So let’s find out whether this Race will be as thrilling as the earlier one set to give you a wild ride or might be just another sequel trying to cash in on its past glory.

    ‘Race 2’ carry forward the story of Ranvir Singh {Saif Ali Khan} who with help of R.D {Anil Kapoor}
    decides to crack a deal with multi millionaire Armaan Mallik {John Abraham} who is obsessed with minting money. Armaan is supported by his fiancée {Jacqueline Fernandez} & his half sister Alisha {Deepika Padukone}. But Ranvir has some other plans stored in for Armaan, What plans? Well that’s what the film is all about.

    Story in ‘Race’ was between two brothers, but here its total different. The main motive behind the competition is not that strong as in the first part, but still has its own merits. Screenplay is total pacey in first half and has some good twist and turns pre interval. But as the story progresses it becomes total predictable and as we race towards the finale one might feel the writers might have just used the same script as of ‘Race’. {Spoiler Alert Starts} There are some good scenes like the whole Anil Kapoor narration in the beginning followed by Saif conning Rajesh Khattar and others, good twist and turns in the middle of the film, John’s fight scenes and few more.
    But on the flip side the content is weak and all the twist and surprise elements seemed predictable, The whole Anil Kapoor – Amisha Patel track out here is bad and at times vulgar, The pre- climax scenes are almost similar to ‘Race’ followed by weak climax fight. {Spoiler Alert Ends} Camera work is pretty good and total stylish. Editing is crisp in first half, needed to trim down few moments and songs in the second half.

    ‘Race 2’ does not have great songs like ‘Race’ but still music director Pritam has managed to give some decent scores like ‘Beinteha’ and ‘Party on my mind’. But the best track from the album is ‘Kat Lag Gayee’ and the worst track is ‘Allah Duhai Hai’. Background music is average.

    Director duo Abaas Mustan starts well with delivering what their audience wants but as movie progresses it succumb to the short cut way and dilutes the film by making it similar to ‘Race’. They have made this film total stylish and slick that at times you tend to forget the logic part and just enjoy the ongoing moments, but as story progresses the loopholes starts to show in big way. They had full potential to make this one a great thriller. It’s not their fault as in today’s time there are very few directors like Rajkumar Hirani who really works hard on its movie brand and takes the sequel to higher level than its original. Rest all are just trying to mint money on its earlier success. They don’t even take pains to do something different. The director duos might manage to get an above average hit out here but their credibility will dilute in big way.

    We all know Saif Ali Khan is the main hero in this film and thus manages to do his part. But still one can find the huge hangover of ‘Agent Vinod’. Actors who portrays negative roles in Abaas Mustan’s films have the meatier role but here it’s John Abraham. Sadly it might not be a memorable one. Still the fight scene in the second half is a treat for his fans and all action lovers. Deepika looks super hot and does her part well, but sadly her character needed to be bit more strong. Jacqueline Fernandez and Amisha Patel are waste. Anil Kapoor starts well but ends up being clone to his original work and lacks far behind his superb performance in ‘Race’. Aditya Pancholi & Rajesh Khattar are good support. There is small cameo by an actor from ‘Race’ which is good.

    So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hain Dum ?

    Dum hain in terms of first half with some good twist and turns, but on overall basis it’s nowhere near to ‘Race’. Still thanks to the stylish direction and star power one might manage to sit throughout the film without having any dull moments. Yes it’s a Masala entertainer, but for me it’s a huge opportunity loss for the film makers as they could have made it out and out entertainer. On overall basis this movie is like a old horse in a new race, and when such things happen we all know the end result- Don’t we?
