Rahul Rawail was born in 1951 in Bombay India. He is son of early days of Indian cinema director Harnam Singh Rawail.

Rahul Rawail has started his direction career by directing Gunehgaar (1980) starring Rajendra Kumar and Parveen Babi followed by Comedy film Biwi-O-Biwi which was produced by Raj Kapoor but it was Beetab(1983) which give a real break to Rahul Rawail as a director , he is a highly accomplished and technically brilliant director in Bollywood and with films like Love story, Arjun, Dacait, Jeevan Ek Sanghursh, Bekhudi, Anjaam, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya , Arjun Pandit he has proved his abilities time and time again. Rahul Rawail has the credit of launching two brilliant actresses of Hindi films Kajol (Bekhudi) and Aishwariya Rai (Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya) although both’s debut films were flop. His film Jo Bole So Nihaal(2005) was in news as it had some issues with Sikh communities and had problems at time of its release. After JO BOLE SO NIHAAL, there was talk that Rahul Rawail would take it easy for a few months and then announce his next movie. But the film-maker, who has worked with names such as Sunny Deol, Madhuri Dixit, SRK and Kajol in the past, has decided to do something daringly different by making Buddha Mar Gaya. Rawail’s last film is Buddha Mar Gaya which is a comedy starring Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Rakhi Sawant and Ranvir Shorey sadly the film could not make an impact at the box office. Becoming a patron of SAPA (School of Asian Performing Arts ), Rahul is committed to this project and in imparting his knowledge to budding future film directors. In his years of experience as a director, Rahul has gained enormous knowledge about acting and developed a keen eye for talent.
