Raj Babbar was born on June 26, 1952 at Agra, Uttar Pradesh. His early education was completed at Agra. Later he did his graduation in theatre from National School of Drama, New Delhi. Babbar came in contact with great Marxist leader Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia while pursuing his academic career. Consequently Babbar developed a keen interest in Marxist philosophy and politics.
He started his filmi career opposite one of the well known actress of that time, Reena Roy in Hindi film "Sau Dina Saas Ke (100-days of mother-in-law). Later he nailed the stake in ground by very horrific well played negative role in B.R. Chopra's "Insaaf Ka Tarazu" (Balance of justice). Raj Babbar says, "Acting is an inevitable part of my life. This is my passion, and identity. Wherever I may go it remains with me. A passion later became my profession and gave me certain identity. This image helped me in politics also." He considers himself as a social worker. He says, "I am a social worker and the desire to do something for the people and the society pulled me into politics." He was touted as next Number-1 after Amitabh Bachchan, however couldn't stay on-course to the same glory. He became a consistent player on B.R. Chopra's films; Nikaah with Deepak Parashar and Salma Agha, Aaj Ki Aawaz with Smita Patil . He worked with top banners and top stars of his era and has great political future.He also achieved success in Punjabi cinema as he gave remarkable performance in " Chan Pardesi" and " Marhi da Diva ". He married Nadira Babbar and also late Smita Patil. Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar are two children from Nadira Babbar. After the birth of Smita's son Prateek Babbar, she died after few days. After her death Raj Babbar patched up with his first wife Nadira Babbar. Although Prateek Babbar lives with the family of Raj Babbar's in-laws. Raj Babbar was also linked with Rekha soon after the death of Smita Patil. His last film was released on 7 October 2005; entitled 'Yaraan Naal Baharaan' in which he played role of Jimmy Shergill 's father. Her Daughter Juhi Babbar played main lead in this film. Now Raj Babbar is busy in politics and still sparing time for films. He is playing the role of a black magician in V. Mennon's 'Sirf Paanch Din'. He is also acting in another cop film directed by Rajan Layalpuri named 'Vardee'.
