My Rating

  • Passenger Train…

Rajdhani Express rating: 1 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 04 Jan 2013)

Right from my childhood I use to love films with Long Distance trains as its backdrop. One of my most favorite films from this genre is B.R.Chopra’s ‘The Burning Train’ along with Satyajit Ray’s ‘Nayak’. There are other films like Mithun’s ‘Teesra Kaun’ or Shyam Benegal’s Tele Series ‘Yatra’ and few more which we have enjoyed and cherished. Yes there were super duds like Priyadarshan’s ‘Tezz’ & few more, but still the whole idea of films with Long Distance Train as its background excites me. Thus the moment I saw the first looks of ‘Rajdhani Express’ with loads of actors in it, I was ready to see this film expecting a great thriller. But somewhere in my heart I had a feeling that this excitement of mine will be ruined in very bad way. Did it? Well let’s find out.

‘Rajdhani Express’ is story of four passengers {Leander Paes, Sudhanshu Pandey, Priyanshu Chatterjee & Puja Bose} travelling from Delhi to Mumbai in Rajdhani Express train in a same compartment. One of the passengers loses his mental status and holds others on gun point. This results to involvement of A.T.S {Jimmy Shergil, Mukesh Rishi & Shilpa Shukla}, politicians along with Media who feel the train has a terrorist. What happens next is what the film about.

One liner story wise it’s superb, but films does not work on one liner subject. It needs good screenplay, performances and proper direction. Sadly out here all these factors are highly missing. I could not find single decent moment in the film which I can praise it as a positive point, except the fact that due to my interest in this genre of film I kept waiting throughout the film expecting something or another to happen. But all I got was disappointment with horrible screenplay, worse performances, and loads of sub plots along with dragging scenes, over dramatic moments, abrupt ending and many more negative points. Camera work is strictly average and editing is terrible. Music too adds to the negative list.

Debutant Director Ashok Kohli makes a mess of this good one liner subject. He indulges so many sub plots and looks total confused throughout the film. One fails to understand the mood swings of Leander Paes or why the hell Puja Bose wanted to play the game while travelling or what were Mukesh Rishi & his team doing in the train along with many more abrupt and half baked characters / scenes which the director failed to explain. The whole purpose of the film gets lost due to bad writing, bad direction and terrible performances.
Leander Paes does his Acting debut and is terrible in the film. Before him many such celebrities have burnt their fingers with their acting bugs and Leander joins the gang. His horrible performance gets good support by T.V Actress Puja Bose. Jimmy Shergil, Sudhanshu Pandey, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Gulshan Grover and Mukesh Rishi try to do their best but fail to save the film. Sayali Bhagat, Kiran Kumar, Ishrat Ali, Anchit Kaur, Shilpa Shukla and others sleep walks in the film.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ iss film mein kitna hai Dum?

Dum??? There is no Dum in this film. This film should be renamed to Passenger Train as all you get in Passenger Train is lots of crowd, slow pace, dragging journey, Even the officials does not know when it will reach its destination. All it gives is painful overcrowded journey and that’s what this film does. Strictly Avoid.
