Kind Charu Dutt was the king of Ujjain. The people of Ujjain were terribly disgusted and angry because of Charu Dutt's torture. But nobody raised their voice against the King. King Charu Dutt was attracted by the sheer beauty of the dance use Basantsena. He wanted to get her in lieu of anything. Basantsena came to the king's court and became the court-dancer. Basantsena used to come to the king's court from her place in a palanquin sent by the king. One day while coming Basantsena realised it was not the palanquin of the king but of the rich businessman Debaditya. Basantsena was charmed by the beauty of young Debaditya she wanted to have him instead of Charu Dutt. But Debaditya was a god-fearing gentleman. He had no guts to go against the society. So Basantsena was refused. In the meantime the kingdom was badly hit by famine and pestilence. Though Charu Dutt was a cruel and tyrant type of person this natural calamity made him disturbed. Buddhism was slowly spread at that time. A Buddhist monk transformed Charu Dutt into a kind hearted king. He also arranged a union between Basantsena and Debaditya and gave a mere danseuse an identity of housewife.
