    • Ram Balaram is a very shabby picturisation of a tale of reincarnation onscreen. It features Laboni Sarkar as Durga, a lady from an illustrious family whose husband and father-in-law is murdered by her brother-in-law Mangal who is a tyrant who spares nothing or nobody who comes in his way. Her sons grow up as Ram (Shilajit) and Balaram (Jisshu) and protest against Mangal and his misdeeds one day and he kills them off as well. Durga prays to Maa Kali and tells her that she should get justice and her sons should return to her one day as she has immense belief in Maa Kali. Her sons are reborn as Joy and Bijoy as two different households, both unaware of each others existence. Bijoy has dreams from time to time that he may have a past. He loves Madhu (Rituparna) and takes her away and lands up the place where Ram and Balaram used to stay. After going there Bijoy slowly starts recollecting what had happened in the past and Joy recognizes his mother and recollectes every thing. Together they take revenge and help their mother to kill Mangal. It is time that one got to see Laboni Sarkar portray a different role other than of a weeping, wailing mother (in most cases a widow where she gets a chance to display her histrionics and of which by this time she has become a master). Dipankar Dey as Mangal with his tyranny exceeds every other kind of tyranny every seen before. The two heroes and the heroines are just about ok. There are too many songs and nearly all are irrelevant.
