If you had seen “Ram Balaram”, the Shahrukh-Salman starrer Hindi film, you don’t need to watch recent Bengali film “Ram Balaram” directed by Shubhayu.
In this Bengali version of reincarnation, the Ram is enacted by Shilajit and Balaram is enacted by Jisshu Sengupta. In the Hindi film Rakhee was their poor mother, here the same role is enacted by Laboni Sarkar.
When Ram Balaram protest against manager and his goons, who in the past murdered their father and grandfather, Mangal kills the two brothers as well. Their mother Durga prays to Maa Kali. Dipankar Dey is Mangal in the film. Ram Balaram reborn as Joy and Bijoy. They slowly start recollecting what had happened in their early life.
Joy first recollects Durga as his mother of the earlier life. On the other hand Bijoy through his dreams from tome to time which makers him believe that he may have a past.
Bijoy has also a girlfriend Madhu played by Rituparna. They go to a place which is recognized by Bijoy as the place of his earlier life. Madhu’s father sends Joy to fetch Madhu and there Joy and Bijoy meet for the first time in their new life and they recognized their earlier life’s relation. They both meet their mother Durga and take revenge against Mangal. The story line is the same, but the making is very shabby. Dipankar Dey overacted very much which looks very odd. The two heroes and the heroines are just ok. Only for the first time Laboni Sarkar is not a weeping mother in a Bengali film. There are too many songs and to be frankly speaking all the songs are irrevalent.
