Shyamlal and Ramlal were step brothers. Shyamla was elder. His wife Narayani has brought up Ramlal since he lost his mother at the age of two and half. Ramlal was sixteen then. Very naughty. Narayani suddenly fell ill. Even after seven days her fever remained. Ramlal went to doctor Nilmani's place and warned him if his sister-in-law's fever not remitted within that day he would destroy his mango garden and dispensary. Narayani's mother Digambari started behaving with Ramlal tinged with malice. One day Ramlal planted a new born “Aswatha” tree in the courtyard. Digambari uprooted that tree. When Ramlal saw that after returning from school he started shouting and crying. Narayani pacified him somehow. Conflict between Digambari and Ramlal continued and every time Narayani had to pacify Ramlal. Ramlal had two pet fishes - Kartick and Ganesh. Digambari caught Ganesh through fisherman Bagha. The catching of the fish was so arranged that it seemed it was done as per Narayani's order. Ram had never received such a cruel blow from his sister-in-law. He started fasting. One day being disgusted Ramlal threw a guava at Digambari, but accidentally it hit Narayani. Shyamlal was forced to separate his brother Ramlal. Ramlal wanted to leave the place. Narayani could not stay cool. She rushed to Ramlal and embraced him.
