Priyadarshan’s films have been growing increasingly from bad to worse and his latest film Rangrezz, a remake of the Tamil hit Naadodigal, joins the list. As the film plays I dread with fear as I might have to stop watching one of my favourite director’s films.
Rishi (Bhagnani) is a jobless chawl guy who hangs out with his pals Pakkya (Verma) and Winu (Nagpal). A long-lost love-lorn friend shows up, and his sad story gives them a mission. Off they go, just like that, to unite the lovers in the face of all odds. Wow wish such people existed in real life!
In this fictional village Lalitpur, the residents speak in an exaggerated Bihari-Purabiya lingo. Now begings the main love story. Pankaj Tripathi, the girl's father is ok, but Lushin Dubey who is the lover boy's politician mother is so loud even ear plugs couldn’t help my already damaged ears! Whenever she appeared onscreen I wanted to run out of the auditorium! Now you can imagine how bad she was.
Anyways, the lovers elope and all hell breaks loose. Jackky Bhagnani is good, Priya Anand is so so, Rajpal Yadav is awful. The film is relentlessly loud and boisterous. That the film has foul language as well shocked the daylights out of me.
Is this the same filmmaker who's given us clean family comedies like Hungama and Heri Pheri? Hope he bounces back with his next film. Don’t watch this movie else you will end up hating Priyadarshan!
