Ranjeeta Kaur, fondly known as Ranjeeta, is a Bollywood actress. Her nickname is "Robby." She was trained at FTII.
Ranjeeta started her film career as the lead, opposite Rishi Kapoor, in the movie Laila Majnu (1976). It became a blockbuster, and is remembered as one of the best Laila-Majnu films to be made ever. Ranjeeta starred in B.R.Chopra’s Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978), alongside Sanjeev Kumar and Vidya Sinha. The film was a hit and is popular even today. Her next film with Sachin, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokon Se (1978) was a hit too. She was even nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. This helped in consolidating her position in the industry. Ranjeeta’s hit films included Surakshaa (1979), starring Mithun Chakravorty, Satte Pe Satta (1982) starring Amitabh Bachchan, Haathkadi (1982) starring Sanjeev Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha, Rajput (1982) starring Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra, Teri Kasam (1982) starring Kumar Gaurav and Poonam Dhillon. Taraana (1979), Unees-Bees (1980), Aap To Aise Na The (1980), Hum Se Badhkar Kaun (1981) Ghar Ek Mandir (1984) and Zamana (1985) were some of the films which did just average business at the box-office, inspite of some good performances. Ranjeeta also starred in many flops such as Damaad (1978), Zulm Ki Pukar (1979), Lakhan (1979), Khwab (1980), Krodhi (1981), Dard (1981), Taqdeer Ka Badshah (1982), Romance (1983), Qatl (1986), Gunahon Ka Devta (1990) and a few others as well. Ranjeeta’s last film was the horror flick Anjaane: The Unknown (2005), also starring Manisha Koirala and Sanjay Kapoor. The movie was a disaster. Ranjeeta will be making a comeback soon with Zindagi Tere Naam, along with Mithun, with whom she must’ve done a dozen odd films. It was the ‘hit pair’ of the late 70’s & early 80’s .
