Raveena, also known as Ravs, was born on 26 October 1970, in Bombay. She spent her childhood close to the glamour world of Mumbai, as she is the daughter of film director Ravi Tandon. Raveena did her schooling in Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, where she was the Head Girl. She studied at Mithibai College. While in third year college, where Fardeen Khan was her class-mate, she began getting offers from film-makers, chiefly because of her good looks. She dropped out of college and decided to pursue her film career. She started off as a model with middling success.

During her time as an intern she got her first film offer which she accepted. It was G.P.Sippy’s Patthar Ke Phool, which won her the "Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut" in 1991. The movie flopped, but she did get noticed for her good looks. Raveena did quite a few films, but 1994 proved to be the lucky year for her. Her films Mohra (1994) [which got her the mast mast girl title] and Dilwale (1994) were big hits at the box office. Laadla fared average at the box office, but still earned her a Filmfare nomination as best supporting actress. Mohra was the second biggest hit of 1994.[6] Her other releases of that year were Imtihaan, an average performer, and the comedy Andaz apna apna which was unsuccessful at the box office, but has been widely accepted as one of the best comedies ever. Thereafter, all her films flopped. Her films Khiladiyon ka Khiladi (1996) and Ziddi (1997) brought her career back on track. In 1998 Raveena had nine releases, of which only Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was a big hit, infact the 2nd biggest hit of the year. Her other films Vinashak - Destroyer, Dulhe Raja, Keemat, Gharwali Baharwali, Pardesi Babu and others failed to do well. She was offered Rani’s role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but turned it down, which then went on to become a massive hit. 2000 onwards, Raveena became more conscious of her image and chose to do realistic cinema. Ghulam e Mustafa (1997), Shool (1999), Ghaath (2000), Bulandi (2000) got her a much needed critical acclaim. She gave award-winning performances in Aks (2001) and Daman (2001) and since then she started receiving a lot of appreciation from the audience. Some good performances in Satta (2003), Stumped (2003), Jaago (2004) and Dobara (2004) were noticed but the films flopped. She has even produced a couple of films viz. Stumped (2003) and Pehchaan: The Face of Truth (2005). Sandwich (2006) was her last film. She has taken a break since then.
