  • APES VERSUS MEN

Rise of the Planet of the Apes rating: 6 out of 10(sayantan das wrote on 14 Aug 2011)

While watching the movie i was remembering a particular work by Charles Darwin,The Origin of Species which propagated that men evolved from apes. Our great great great(add many more great)grandfathers were apes.So human beings are somewhat related to the apes and they should not be considered to be inferior than humans,at times they even surpasses the so-called "HUMAN BEINGS".This is what Rise of the Planet of the Apes tries to uphold.
As the name suggests the movie showcases the revolt of the planet of the apes against the race called "humans".Although these human race speaks of 'BEING HUMAN' and bla bla bla ,they end up 'BEING INHUMAN' which is very unfortunate and also a disgrace to the whole race. Will(James Franco)a researcher bought home a baby chimp after the death of his mother. Will's father Charles(John Lithgow)named him Caesar.Charles was suffering from Alzheimer but one fine morning Will found that his father was comfortably playing on the piano. That took him by surprise.Caesar was so much in love with the family that he could go to any extent in order to protect the members. His ferocious behaviour was the reason for protest by the neighbours and that resulted his imprisonment. There he was ill-treated and that bred in him some kind of a rebellious attitude and with the help of his intelligence became the leader of a large group of apes.
It is a matter of fact that language developed from the chattering of apes and Caesar in the movie was able to speak. He spoke like a human being.A person cannot blink his eyes during the climax and his mouth would continuously open up with excitement, apes attacking the human ,their grudge against the ill-treatment of the human finally got an outlet.Watch the movie and i am quite sure you will end up supporting the apes. The last scene is absolutely brilliant. Will asked Caesar to get back home,Caesar replied that he was already at home and started climbing the tree and ultimately reaches the top most branch and kept gazing the horizon and there the movie ends.
Watch this latest venture of Rupert Wyatt for some brilliant technique, some really good acting and a suitable background score.James Franco was as usual, good enough.Freida Pinto played her part well. The script is a bit predictable ,especially at the end.I give it 3/5.
