Arnab ‘Riingo’ Banerjee has totally lifted the Hollywood thriller “Cellular” for his new directorial venture “Risk”.

An accidental cross-connection between a kidnapped lady with a land-line phone and a guy in a car with a cellular phone, who ultimately saves her – in the story line of both the films. In the Bangla version of the film Rituparna Sengupta is the kidnapped lady and HIran is the guy with a cellular on a mo-bike instead of a sports car in the original version.

Arnab ‘Riingo’ Banerjee has tried his best to make “Cellular” as believable as possible in Bengali. But certain things like “Burger” you cannot be Bengalise it, so is “Cellular” – the basic concept is so Hollywoodish that it is impossible to transcreate in Tollywood. Wrong selection of story line makes “Risk”, a risky business proposition.

Here Rituparna’s husband Amitabha Bhattacharya is a super cop who has designed a security system. Rajesh Sharma, is also a cop, but has joined hands with the terrorists for a big amount of money if he supplies the blue print of that security system to them So Rajesh kidnaps Rituparna and locks her in a warehouse some where is the port area. Before leaving Rituparna alone in the warehouse, his aid broke the telephone, the only way to communicate.

But desperate Rituparna by that broken telephone connects with unknown Hiran’s mobile phone.

Hiran has a girlfriend Priyanka, who seems come right from the pages of “Vogue” magazine, playing a cop, the only source of lights moments of the film. But director has given him some request so that the great actor doesn’t look like a joker (that is the way Subhasish is being treated in Bengali films.)

Renowned percussionist Bickram Ghosh is the music director of the film. He has done a good job and so the editor of the film. The main key is the pace of the film. Riingo has designed the screenplay in such a way that the entire film remains in a pace right from the word ‘go’.

Hiran is very good in the film. Amitabha, Rituparna and Rajesh have done exactly what they were needed to do. But the climax one-to-one fight sequence between Amitabha and Rajesh is very badly designed by Judo-Ramu – it seems very very childish. And Rituparna needn’t be a Black Belt carateer just for a jumping kick – Riingo has made her a laughing stock of for this action.
