  • Road to Gandhiji’s thoughts!

Road To Sangam rating: 6 out of 10(Aakash Barvalia wrote on 02 Feb 2010)

I guess “Road to Sangam” is a very small budget film, but the way it has been shown is just amazing. Simple story, presented in a very nice way, with some added melodious music, and not to be forgotten, a marvelous and splendid performance given by Paresh Rawal.

Story is very simple, but though very impactful and have its deep meaning to understand.

Paresh Rawal is the General Secretary or something of the Muslim Community in Uttar Pradesh. He is also an engineer who works in his own shop and repairs the spare parts of the cars. One fine day he got an order to repair the engine of the car which is very-very old. Now the day after this a bomb blast occurred in UP and the Police officers had also arrested some innocent Muslims and by protesting them one of the relative of the Om Puri, who is the head of the Muslim Community, was dead. So to again protest, Om Puri and his associates decided to close down all the shops and offices of local Muslims around there till they release the innocent Muslims. Now Paresh Rawal got to know that the car engine in which he was working was the engine in which Mahatma Gandhiji’s ashes were been taken off to the river for visarjan. And now the actually story is that ki when Mahatma Gandhiji was died, his last wish was that ki his ashes would be visarjit in different holy rivers of our India. But unfortunately one of his ashes was forgotten to be visarjit and was there at some UP’s bank locker. Now Mahatma Gandhiji’s grandson decided to visarjit but only one condition, that it will be done by the same real feeling and in same car. So the old car engine was being given to Paresh Rawal to repair it. Now as all the shops were closed so Paresh Rawal wasn’t able to repair it. But he fought back through Gandhiji’s lessons and not only fought back also made understand all his Muslims friends including Om Puri.
Watch how the film ends with hard hitting thought which Mahatma Gandhi was trying to give to all the people.

Direction by Amit Rai, who has stepped in this film industry very first time, has done a decent job. His directorship was strictly Ok, but as he has also written the story of this film, he has done a splendid job, though it’s also his very first time as a script writer.

Also another plus point of the film is his Music. Very melodious songs and the back ground score was balanced following each and every scene.

Performance wise all were excellent, especially by Paresh Rawal. He has just lifted the movie from ground to sky. As a screenplay wise, people may find boring in some scenes, but they will surely enjoy the performance of Pareshji in his each and every scene. Ompuri was good, he didn’t get much screen presence, but he did overall very convincing job. And good to see Tushar Gandhi in an as special appearance.

Negative point was only that its technical point was very weak. Cinematography was although Ok, but the Editing was very bad. Many continuity mistakes were being able to seen. Also there was a loophole in the screenplay point of view. Many scenes were boring, but still bearable as it was holding quite a good lesson for the masses. But the Writer and Director Amit Rai have also added some good humor scenes in this very serious topic, and it was good and decent also. Dialogues were also good and some of them were funnier also.

    Final Verdict:
A must watch for every Indians and Pakistanis. Not only them, I guess it’s a must watch for every human being. You will definitely feel so proud of being a devotee of a Great guy Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, The Mahatma.

    3 / 5
