Rock On transported me to a different world. A world of youth, a world which is driven by what you want to do rather than what you have to do... a world which is ruled by the heart.... and above all a world in which you are free..... a free spirit....free to do what you want to without the trappings of the mundane.
All of us have a passion.... a dream... which we would have followed or have been lucky/ prudent enough to follow in our present phase of life.... the arts....sports.....and many of us have actually let this go, in the pursuit of making a living or carrying on with life in general.
This movie makes you think back and invokes the longing to become a free spirit again, and that is where it connects with all who watch it.
Arjun and Farhan are amazing and play their roles to perfection. Arjun, in my opinion, has given one of his finest and most controlled performances. Purab was also a surprise.
The movie had many similarities with Farhan's earlier movies and can't help wondering about the extent of Farhan's involvement with the direction of Rock On (Sorry Abhishek Kapoor , can't help but think !!!) :
........The rich spolit kid which Farhan invariably brings into his movies....Aamir in Dil Chahta Hai, Hrithik in Lakshya and now Farhan himself in Rock On....give this sneaky feeling that the character is a little autobiographical for Farhan.
......The split between friends which gets patched up later on, the coming together and meeting up of friends in the end, a death of someone close, all reminiscent of Dil Chahta Hai.
..... Purab does remind you a ittle of Saif in Dil Chahta Hai while Joe's quiet and solid presence does remind one of Akshaye's character in Dil Chahta Hai
However, despite similarities, Rock On holds its own and enthralls.
It is one of the best movies of recent times and I felt really happy watching it.
Rock On guys.... to many more such movies!
