Rockstar” is a story of Janardan Jakad JJ played by Ranbir Kapoor and his journey from a normal Haryanvi student in Delhi University to being a Rockstar “Jordan” and his relationship with Heer (Nargis Fakhri) the most sought after girl in Delhi University. The movie starts off well and the first half is extremely fast but post interval the movie starts to falter in pace and the screenplay is stretched. The main issue of the screenplay is, it keeps on fluctuating between being a love story and a story of a rock star. Another flaw is the intermittent flash backs and it is confusing at times. Ranbir Kapoor with his brilliant performance is the real rock star of the movie; his transformation from JJ to Jordan is brilliant, he would definitely be the contender for “Best Actor Award” for this movie this year. The debutant Nargis Fakhri looks beautiful but somehow fails to do justice to her character Heer. Aditi Rao Haidiri has a brief role but does justice to her role. One of the highlight of the movie is the camera work of Anil Mehta, he has captured Delhi, Kashmir and Prague like a painting. The music of A R Rahman lifts the movie to a different level especially “Kun Faya Kun”. Imtiaz Ali’s direction is inconsistent and one of the main drawback of the movie. The kind of set up Imtiaz had he could have done a much better job . Just watch the movie for Ranbir Kapoor and music of AR Rahman.
