    Runa Rizvi is the daughter of famous ghazal singer Rajkumar Rizvi and singer Indrani Rizvi. She is into music since childhood due to her family background. However, she entered into playback singing recently and owes it to A.R.Rahman. She even has a small jazz band, and has both Indian classical and Western musical influences on her singing. She learnt jazz in New York for 5/6 years and also trained in thumri and Sufiana music, in India.

    She belongs to Kalavant gharana and has been trained in classical, semi-classical and light classical music and is proficient at ghazals, thumri, folk, Punjabi and Sufi music, having started performing at the tender age of six with her father. Her father was close to late Madan Mohan and others and he sang Laila Majnu do badan ek jaan with Anuradha Paudwal and Preeti Sagar in Laila Majnu (1976).

    Runa made her debut in playback singing with her song, Shukriya (along wiht Kunal Ganjawala) in Sandesh Shandilya's film, Uff..Kya Jaado Mohabbat Hai! from Rajshri Productions. Runa also sang Jeene ke and Har kafan under Amar Mohile in Ram Gopal Varma's Contract. Then, she got famous with Jaane tu mera kya hai in recent hit movie Jaane Tu...Runa had the opportunity to perform with legends like Hariprasad Chaurasia, Jagjit Singh and Mehdi Hasan. On Feb 17, 2006 she was introduced as "The Young maestro in Sufi music" at the launch of Indian Music Academy.

    She has recored songs for Bapi-Tutul in The Flag and with A.R.Rahman and Shyam Benegal's Chamku Chameli as well as for Pritam, Lalit Pandit and Salim-Sulaiman. She is also working on an album.
