Shri Nath Tripathi was born in a Brahmin family of Banaras, U.P. on 14th March 1913. His grand father Pandit Ganesh Dutt Tripathi was principal of Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Kashi and his father Pandit Damodar Dutt Thakur was principal of Government high school. He did his early education from Banaras and completed his graduation from Allahabad. He got training of classical music from V N Bhatkhande's Morris College of Music, Lucknow. He also obtained training of folk music from Maina Devi, Lucknow. He also became 'Sangeet Praveen' from Prayag Sangeet Samiti and 'Sangeet Visharad' from Morris Music College.
SN Tripathi was a man of multidimensional quality. He was an actor, a composer, a poet, a writer, and what not! SN Tripathi was one of the selected music directors who never left the pure Indian accent in their songs. He had a great flair and understanding for the Indian classical music which is very well reflected in his compositions.
SN Tripathi died on 28 th March 1988, in Bombay.
