King Ashrapati promised that he would unite his daughter Sabitri in marriage with his friend Dyumat Sen's son Satyaban. One day while Narad came to king Ashrapati's palace, the king told Narad that his daughter has just came back after selecting her husband Satyaban, son of Dyumat Sen. After listening this Narad tells Ashrapati that Satyaban's life span is very short. He requests Sabitri to select another husband. Sabitri is adamant that she will marry only Satyaban. The marriage is over and one year passes by very smoothly. One evening Satyaban goes to the jungle to bring some wood. Sabitri goes along with her husband. But they do not find any dry wood. Suddenly they find a dry tree. Satyaban chops at the trunk of the tree with his axe. But when he strikes the tree he gets a sudden headache and dies instantly and the tree transforms to Lord Yama. As Lord Yama leaves the place Sabitri follows him. Lord Yama creates a lot of problems for Sabitri, but she crosses all the hindrances and continues following Yama. Then Yama blesses her with three boons. First boon returns the vision of king Dyumatsen's eyes, the second gives back the kingdom of her father-in-law and the third one gives her 100 sons. Now Sabitri asks for the fourth and the last boon. Yama allowes her the fourth boon. Sabitri asks for mother hood. Yama without thinking approves the requst of Sabitri and then he realises that he had actually returned back the life of her husband Satyaban to his wife Sabitri.
