The film "SADHU BABAR LATHI" is a wonderful and a brave effort of debutant director Sanghita Banerjee. The story is based on a magical stick, which is written by eminent writer Shirshendu Mukherjee.
Nabin (Areef Hossain) a common village boy got hold of a stick which is gifted to him by his uncle. The stick has immense magical power. Even an innocent, dumb boy like Nabin become smart and powerful and fights the entire fierceful dacoits with the help of that stick. Now all the characters, from a common theif Nimai (Pankaj Munshi) to notorious dacoits like Heeru(Rama Prasad banik) and Panu (Mrinal Mukherjee) wanted to posses that magical stick and make plans to steal that stick from Nabin.
The film also has some funny ghosts which will sure entertain the young ones.
Music by Antara Chowdhury is outstanding. The songs are full of melody.
The Character Nabin played by Areef Hossain has done his job well. He acted very normally with other two costars Jagai (Mithai Banerjee) and Madhai (Subir). Pankaj Munshi, Ramaprasad banik and Mrinal Mukherjee all are superb in their respective characters.
The first half, conversation between nabin and Nimai / Jagai and Madhai could have been edited a bit tightly and is a bit lengthy, but the entire film is worth seeing.
To conclude Hats off to director Sanghita for making this effort, bcoz films based on children fantasy are rare nowadays. There may be technical drawbacks , but efforts like this should be appreciated.
