Sreepati babu was an old zamindar. He had no one else them his wife Saraswari and daughter Chandra. His estate was run by Jiban Ghosh. In that business Jiban was an expert. Ramanath Roy bought certain amount of land from Sreepati. A misunderstanding between them started regarding that land. Saradeswari made that misunderstanding more critical. They became arch enemies. Ramanath's youngest son Nagen loved Chandra. His elder son Khagen was married to Lalita. Jiban in consultation with Saradeswari told Ramanath one day, that Lalita's past was very shady. That was a conspiracy. But everybody of the village came to know within a very short time about the rumor regarding Lalita's past. Khagen was very upset. He asked Lalita why she didn't tell him earlier anything about her past. Lalita thought Khagen had lost his faith on her. So one day she wanted to leave. Nagen went to her to Calcutta. But nothing like that happened. Saradeswari confused her misdeeds to Lalita. Khagen realised her mistake. It didn't take much time after this for Nagen to marry Chandra.
