Salt rating: 6 out of 10(Aakash Barvalia wrote on 23 Jul 2010)

Extremely beautiful and breathtaking lady, Angelina Jolie appeared after 2 years in the big screen, and had once again showed her sparkling performance here. But I doubt her film would be less likable to most of her fans all around.

The whole story is about Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) who is a CIA Officer of America, and soon when interrogating one Russian Spy name Orlov (Daniel Olbrychski), he had made a doubt in the American’s entire Officers mind that Salt is a Russian Spy and on a mission to kill the Russian President. (Strange, a Russian Spy on a mission to kill Russian President?) She ran from there and decided to prove her innocence. Soon the story takes a turn when she herself killed the Russian President. But then now she also killed her entire Russian Spy’s unit with her leader. And then one of her Russian Spy friend met her and gave her a new mission to kill America’s President. And the story again makes many twists and turns. In the climax the news came that the Russian President was not killed, but was only temporary paralyzed. Why had Salt done that? Why she didn’t kill Russian President? Why did she kill the entire of her group including her leader?

    My comment:

Initially when the film started, the very first scene were being shows us that Angelina was being tortured by the officers, and she was yelling and pleading against them that she is not a Russian Spy. Then on the very next scene she was being released from the jail and walking with her colleague. Then the flashback revolves the entire plot which is being shown above.

I know many questions would arise in your mind, and would definitely be strange many a times after reading the original plot here. Though the whole movie is interesting with all of his twists and turns, but when you are eagerly waiting to solve this mystery, the film ends there, leaving us a blank face in our mind. I am sure Director Phillip Noyce is definitely thinking for the sequel. But if not, then the film is entirely wasted for the audiences. Also when the film comes to an end, Salt is being caught up by the CIA officers, and one of the Loyal CIA Officer, Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who was very desperate to catch this Salt, as a Russian Spy, and also wanted to kill her, and also he was the very first guy to doubt on her that she is a Russian Spy; suddenly he trusted Salt when she said that she is not a Spy and wanted to save the country from all these spy’s, and helped her to escape. Strange and very filmy too!

The only thing was likable was the Jolie’s extremely superlative performance, and the boom action sequences shown in the film. Though Jolie was looking very old in this movie, but still was looking was very beautiful. Her performance was top notch, and she proved that she can be “An Action Hero”. In short she was the “Female Bourne Identity”. All of the action sequences shown us by the Director Phillip Noyce were absolutely thrilling and entertaining.

The film definitely puts you on an urge of nail biting, but when the film ends at the middle of the question mark, it fails to impress you. I was definitely was waiting for more to come, but then theatres lights were on, and the gates were opened, I felt strange and sad. But on the contrary, there’s a plus point of this. It shows that the film made you interesting and liked it. If the film would have proper ending with all the solved mysteries, then I think the rating would have undoubtedly risen up then what it is now.

But as we say, Content is the king; if the Salt-2 comes, then this film is purely watchable. But if not, then don’t get yourself confuse, and don’t spend your valuable money just to watch Jolie’s performance and some good boom action cum thrilling sequences. I wish Salt-2 comes.

    3 / 5
