Sameer Karnik, whose first film as a debu writer and a director was “Kyun! Ho Gaya Na” (released on 13th of August 2004) starring Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya Rai together. He was also nominated for the same film as the Best Debuting Director in the Zee Cine Awards.
He started his career as an assistant director in the film “Kareeb”, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra starring Bobby Deol and Neha. He had also acted in the same film as a side character role.
Then after a break of three years he came back with a film “Nanhe Jaisalmer” (released on 14th of September 2007) which was again written and directed by him starring Bobby Deol with a new child hero Dwij Yadav.
According to the sources Sameer had first approached the role of Bobby to Sharukh Khan. But at the end with some dates problem Sameer had casted Bobby for the film.
The film didn’t appeal much for the audiences which made out a flop film according to a Box-Office report. This film was in a controversial news those days that the writer Nikhil Saini filed a complain against Mr. Sameer Karnik in front of writer’s association that his story was being copied. For this reason the released date of the film was much more postponed.
His next upcoming film written and directed by him is about to release on 24th of October 2008 as the film called “Heroes” starring Salman Khan, Priety Zinta, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Sohail Khan, Amrita Arora and much more.
The film story is some about related with our national ‘heores’ – freedom fighters. According to the sources the film starts with the two collegian boys who somehow got into some situations and had to face a challenge in front of them. The challenge was to join the Indian Army. And then now the story moves further where in the life of those two boys got a new, a big and an exciting turn.
