Sanjhbati was named so by her mother because she was born at the twilight hours. Her father perceived an aura about her and used to paint a picture of hers on every birthday. However one day her father is caught in a compromising position with a lady friend, and her mother cannot survive her shock. The disillusioned Sanjhbati is at last reconciled to her father. On her seventeenth birthday he paints another portrait and that night for the first time in her life, Sanjhbati sees fairies in her dream.
