Santosh Singha was one of the early actors in Bengali cinema, was born on 11th March 1899 in Kolkata. His parents were Sri Kalikrishna Singha and smt Kironmoy Debi. Santosh Singha passed his Entrance Examnation from ‘Oriental Seminary’ in 1919. He got admitted in City College but unfortunately could not appear for the ICS examination due to his father’s death.
After seeing his acting skill in Art Theatre Ahindra Choudhury brought him to the limelight. Santosh Singha made his debut in a silent film called ‘Krishnasudama’ directed by Sri Choudhury in 1927. Later on his talkie film Jamuna Puline directed by Priyanath Ganguly was released in 1933. In his early life , Santosh Singha did a job in Mechantile Bank. From the year 1956 – 63, he worked as a teacher in Rabindra Bharati Vishwabidyalaya. He took his acting to the ‘Mahanayak’ Uttamkumar too. In 1941 tied his knots with Nirmala singha and had five sons. Santosh singha was honored with Rabindra Bharati and Sangeet Natak Award. He was also awarded with Kolkata Viswabidyala Stare Theatre.
