Subhash Nagare (Amitabh Bachchan) is referred as Sarkar by all the people who come to him for help for justice. Sarkar’s elder son is Vishnu (Kay Kay Menon) who is an arrogant film producer and lusts for the film actress Sapna (Nisha Kothari) and neglects his wife. Sarkar's younger son, Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan), returns from the United States and is in love with Pooja (Katrina Kaif). Avantika (Tanishaa) stays with Sarkar’s family and secretly loves Shankar. Vishnu shoots the actor of his film who is in love with Sapna and comes under the ire of Sarkar. A clash between Sarkar and Rashid (Zakir Husain), a Dubai-based don creates a series of events which eventually land Sarkar in jail after being accused of ordering to assassinate the Ahimsa political leader and an outspoken critic of Sarkar, Motilal Khurana (Anupam Kher). Rashid forms an alliance with Selva Mani, Sarkar's former associate and Swami Virendra. They attempt to kill Sarkar in the prison, but Shankar saves him. They poison Vishnu’s mind and convinces him to murder his father. Will Shankar be able to save his father and take revenge on their enemies?
