My Rating

  • A very different Sector V

Sector V rating: 3 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 30 Nov 2012)

Dalhousie has always been the ‘office para’ of Kolkata over the years and has an old charm of its own, but the new generation is more used to Sector V which lies in Salt Lake and is currently the IT hub of the city. Many leading software companies have their offices located there . Besides a few other offices from other sectors like telecommunications and R & D also have their offices located there and also with restaurants, coffee shops and multiplexes, it is the latest 'in thing' and 'office para' of the city. Therefore when a film has a name like Sector V , one would expect a film to have been made centred around the activities of a IT company located in Sector V or something which will help us to understand Sector V better. But no, it is nothing like that, the film is absolutely different .

The film is about the employees of a pharma cum R & D company where corruption, greed and even ambition is at its extreme. The G.M is a very ambitious man so to achieve success, he is willing to do anything for that. Then there is a scientist, Prof Mallick who develops a formula for a medicine which will fetch a lot of dollars if the formula can be sold and he is unimpressed with the work of a researcher , Rajat who works under him. Then there are a group of friends, 5 in all, one of which happens to be the live in girlfriend of Rajat and her name is Chandrima. All the people mentioned till now work in the same company. What happens later is interesting indeed. Rajat decides to take revenge against the professor and kidnaps him. While trying to steal the formula from the archive, the security guard even gets murdered by Rajat’s henchman. Rajat’s real intentions are later revealed by Bipul, his colleague who decides to investigate things on his own. Chandrima comes to know the truth and Rajat is later arrested.

The story and the plot is interesting, but it is impossible for a bunch of amateurs to carry it on their shoulders which includes the director as well. The execution seems to be a little poor and haphazard. Songs sung by singers do not suit the people for whom they have been sung. Robbery has been spelt as 'rabari', two paintings are identical, the roads seem to be deserted and the doors of every house seem to be open ! Rajatava Dutta seems to be wasted. Barring Suman Haldar(who has already acted in a few serials and films) and Apala Mondol, the rest of the cast is extremely amateurish. The character called Bipul seems to have got away scot free even after he bumps off quite a few men! Sector V is very unlike what you would expect from a film with such a name and Sector V has literally not even been shown.
