This film is based on the famous late story writer’s last story ‘Sesh Prohor’.It had an interesting storyline and could have been a good film but for it’s tragic ending and a few inconsistencies. It is the story of an honest Ranger Akash who gets killed while fighting goons who are out to steal wood. His wife and daughter lead a tough life, but are helped along the way by the new Ranger, Pramatesh Mitra.Annuparna, Akash’s wife falls sick one day and passes away leaving Durga, her daughter in the care of her neighbour. Her daughter grows up and marries her childhood friend Sitaram. One day an evil cop Rati Kanta arrives as the new Daroga and eyes Durga. He decides that he must have at any cost. He gets the new Ranger transferred and arrests Sitaram on false charges. He pays Durga a visit at night one day and tells her that she should sleep with him if she wants to free her husband. She agrees. Her child suddenly starts crying. The Daroga throws a pillow over the child’s head and the child expires due to suffocation.Durga on realizing what has happened gets a chopper from the next room and hacks the Daroga to death. She starts parading his dead body in the entire village on a trolley. Her husband who had been released by Chotobabu comes back to discover that his wife has gone mad.
A few notable inconsistencies in the script are firstly we see Akash and Annuparna being married and even having a child all within a song and the same thing is repeated with Durga and Sitaram just that the two pairs are different, but sequence of events the same! How odd! In the last scene we see Sitaram arriving when his wife is parading the body of the Daroga in the entire village, but the fact is he was released at night and this sequence is seen taking place in the morning. Now where and just what was he doing the entire night? Did he decide to take a nap?
For cinematic reasons, the character could have done more and more footage should have been given as the character is not explored fully. All the actors though do their job well and Surajit (of Bhoomi fame) debuts as a music director.
