Settai by R. Kannan is a amateurish movie overall. One can easily question Kannan's direction skills in this remake attempt.Placement of songs, screenplay every aspect is so disappointing.Towards the second half, the whole film was not able to sustain its promise and collapsed like a pack of cards. As a viewer, one does not expect a romantic dream song in a serious sequence.Even the shootout sequence in the hotel did not engage.
The director also seems to be confused whether to retain the adult quotient of Delhi Belly or make it a family one.As a result, the film has a scenes for family audiences but also a lot of cuss words. I laughed in the theater for Santhanam, who seems to believe in his role.Others like Arya and Premji seemed a bit disinterested.
Overall the film has a lot of laugh out loud moments. But coming out of theatre I felt a deep sense of frustration and disappointment. Not many films have generated mixed reactions and feelings from me as Settai.
