    Born to critically acclaimed actor Pankaj Kapoor and actress/classical dancer Neelima Azim, was born on February 25, 1981 in Mumbai. His parents divorced when he was three and he mostly lived with his mother. His step-mother is Supriya Pathak. Shahid Kapoor has a little brother and sister called Ruhan and Sanaa. He's also the step brother of Ishaan Kapoor who he starred with in the film "Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi". His maternal grandfather was Anwar Azeem, a noted Marxist journalist and author from Bihar.

    When he was 18, he accidently landed the commercial for Pepsi which starred Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. He also starred in a music video for the band Aryans and met his college sweetheart Hrishita Bhatt, who also appeared in the video. He is a trained dancer, and recieved his training from famed dancer, Shiamak Davar. After working as an extra here and there, Shahid finally debuted as an Lead Actor in Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishk. He also gained a growing fan base, which included Bollywood babe Kareena Kapoor. In 2006, things began turning around as he received his first box office success since his debut with the multi-starrer, 36 China Town. Despite mixed reviews the comic-thriller became an above-average success. Shortly after the release of the film, Kapoor's second release, Chup Chup Ke (2006) released, which was a moderate success. Following that year, he was seen in Sooraj R. Barjatya's blockbuster Vivah, which became his biggest commercial success so far. His performance was well appreciated with audiences and critics alike,and emerged as one of the year's biggest hits.     Recently released Aziz Mirza's Kismet Konnection opposite Vidya Balan, didn't do as well as expected in the box-office. He will soon be seen in upcoming films - Nagesh Kukunoor's Eight by Ten with Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia, Milenge Milenge
