    In 1974 A small budget film got released with a name ‘Shaitan’ starring Anil Dhawan, Sharmila Tagore and Shatrughan Sinha. Later several films having this word in their names got released but most of them were ‘B’ grade flicks or crap horror films. Films like Pyaasa Shaitan, Insaan Aur Shaitan, Shaitan Mujrim, etc associated the name of devil with the horror genre. Decades later Anuraag Kashyap brings the Devil name back in his production, but this time associating the devil name with the human, exploring the devil within.     Any movie that has some association with Anurag Kashyap does start with an additional baggage to deliver at the intellectual level and Shaitaan definitely does that.

    Bejoy Nambiar has taken up a story which draws quite a few similarities to that of PAANCH. But is this PAANCH - Reloaded, well I dont think so.     This could have been a superb piece of cinema with more control, a more interwoven script and an unflinching engagement with evil. Ultimately, it seems like a lukewarm follow-up to Kashyap’s Paanch and Dev.D. Even so, Nambiar is one of the brightest debuts in Hindi cinema in recent times.
