Shakti Kapoor was born on September 3, 1958 in India and is a Bollywood actor. He was the second of four children born to Sikander Lal Kapoor, who had a tailoring shop at CP, and Susheela, a housewife. Never too keen on studies, he was thrown out of three schools and passed his exams through the third division. Cricket was his passion then. He turned into a model before he passed out of college and his first ad campaign was for Surya Bansi Suitings, with Jalal Agha’s wife Valerie. Later, he was accepted in the Films and Television Institute of India after an audition.
On the way to Pune he met Anil Verman and later befriended Vinodh Khanna, Rakesh and Rajesh Roshan and Mithun Chakraborty. His first movie was Khel Khiladi Ka(1977). Later he was fetured in Darwaza and Ali Baba Marjina(1977) when he ran into Feroz Hkan accidentally. His big breakthrough in the industry came with Qurbani(1980) when Feroz Khan gave him the role of the villain. When Rocky was released, his status as a good actor was confirmed. He worked with Manmohan Desai, Prakash Mehra, David Dhawan. Shakti Kapoor is one of the most comic actors to grace the Bollywood screen. Since the start of his career in 1972, he holds the world record for acting in the most films, he has acted in 413 films. He had been often nominated for the Filmfare Award in the most comic performance category. His on-screen pairing with another comic actor Kader Khan as the latter's son has often led to laughable comedies. When the Mumbai film industry competed with its American counterpart in serving the audience the 'show must go on' formula of 'sex and violence' this actor became one of the most recognized faces of the hodge-podge filmdom. His very notable performances include Nandu of the David Dhawan masterpiece Raja Babu. During his career, he was part of many successful films such as Aasha(1980), Khiladi(1992), Aankhen(1993), Judwaa(1997) and many more.
Married to Shiwangi He has two children and he is the brother-in-law of prominent Marathi actress Padmini Kolhapure. Kapoor was entangled in controversy in 2005, when during a sting operation he solicited sexual favors from a television reporter posing as an aspiring Bollywood actress. The incident caused the actor to be alienated for a short period, but then the public got over it. Nowadays, Shakti is a regular fixture in Priyadarshan films like Hungama, Hulchul, Chup Chup Ke and Maalamaal Weekly.
