Bollywood actress Shamita Shetty was born on born February 2nd, 1979. She is the younger sister of the famous Indian actress and 'Celebrity Big Brother' winner Shilpa Shetty. Shamita was born to Surendra and Sunanda Shetty in the Southern Indian state of Karnataka. Shamita dropped out from Sydenham College in Mumbai in the 11th standard to pursue a diploma course in Fashion designing. Shamita Shetty always admired her famous sister Shilpa and wanted to follow in her footsteps.
She got a break in a big budget Bollywood film ‘Mohabbatein’. Her co-star in the movie was Uday Chopra whom she later dated for a short period of time. The movie was produced by one of the greatest Indian producers, Yash Chopra. The film was based on the love stories of six youths who find their guide in the form of Shah Rukh Khan. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, who played a sort of non-believer of love. The film was a super hit and soon Shamita Shetty became famous and lot of new movie offers came her way. Shamita later became very famous for the item song in the movie 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai'. She is regarded as one of the hot young actresses in Indian Cinema and often referred to as the 'Item Girl'.
The term ‘item girl’ has been tagged with Shamita after her famous super hit item songs "Sharara" in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2001) and "Chori Pe Chori" in Saathiya (2002). Soon after her popularity rose following the super success of her item songs and soon she began to get roles which would showcase her acting ability, such as Wajahh and Bewafaa in which she played negative roles. Her best performance till date has been in the 2005 hit Zeher, further enhancing her career in Bollywood. She also went on to star in the film Fareb with her sister, which was an avergae grosser at the box-office.
