In our Hind Film Industry where most of the directors stick to their particular genre or follow the fad, there are some directors who always try to experiment with new genre or different style of cinema. Film makers like Gulzar, Shyam Benegal, Madhur Bhandarkar, Ram Gopal Varma, Shimit Amin and many more try to focus on the subject which excites them without even thinking about the box office results. Dibakar Banerjee is also one such director from the recent lot who could have easily made light hearted films after the super success of his debut film Khosla Ka Ghosla. ... » read more

We always used to have students in our class who used to top each year and after some time only had to compete with themselves. Dibakar Banerjee is one such student of cinema who continues to excel no matter on which pitch he is. And now after 3 movies his movies can be compared only to the ones which he has made.

Shanghai, a political thriller is completely different from what he has made before and he certainly hits the bullseye.

Will not indulge too much on the plot which actually is nothing different from any previously made good vs bad movies. ... » read more

I dont know why the film is not making good business otherwise it has full support from the critics in India. According to me, its an engaging, classy, crispy entertainment cinema from one of the best(well, atleast now he has joines the club)directors of hindi movies Dibakar Banerjee. Emraan Hashmi comes out as a new personality (atleast differs from Bhatt's movies) and does his best and supporting Pitobash Tripathy is a treat to watch. Its a film that doesnt deserve to be missed.... Read more on http://enter10meant.com » read more

Kasam khoon ki khayee hai, sheher nahi Shanghai hai…

The movie starts off with Bhagu (Pitobash) wondering about the English word for ‘mutton’! Bhagu is one of those party workers who do the dirty work for the well-dressed bureaucrats and politicians. The story, adapted from Vassilis Vassilikos’ novel Z (also made into an Oscar winning film with the same name) is set in a fictitious town in India called Bharatpur. The Bureaucrats plan to set up a business park under the project called IBP. The voice over says that its stands for India Business Project while ... » read more

A slow political thriller lasting 2 hours.

After Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Love Sex aur Dhokha comes another 'zara hat ke' movie from Dibakar Banerjee.

This one is about Bharat Nagar where a mega infrastructure project (backed by the ruling party) promising to change the face of this small town, gets involved in a political murder of an activist (Prosenjit Chatterjee) protesting this change.

Kalki Koechlin does not appear impressive. I will confess that I did not like her in this movie, may be the role demanded this subtle behavior. You will most of all like Emraan Hashmi for ... » read more

Shanghai is a film which has money power sex and music to attract the viewers. It is a telltale of young men who are willing to save India for a threat.
