Shanti Das was a prolific art director who reigned the golden era of films the 1960's and 70's.
He started his career with a Bengali movie, Shubha Bibaha (1959). After that, he shifted to Bollywood. He worked in this industry for close to 40 years. In his illustrious career, he worked on almost two hundred films, from the black and white era to the colour films era. He worked with veterans like Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Subodh Mukherjee among others. His last film was Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate with Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
He gained fame for his work in Shammi Kapoor's film Junglee (1961). Then there was no looking back. He went on to win Filmfare awards for films like Phool Aur Pathar (1966), Talaash (1969), Hum Kisise Kam Nahin (1977). But the icing on the cake was the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, which he received for his contribution to Bollywood in 2000.
He passed away on August 14, 2011.
