Shararat is a light hearted and emotional movie that deals with the importance of family & keeping it together. Rahul (Abhishek Bachan), the only son of a rich industrialist parents, is punished for his mistake & sent to an old-age home for a month to serve IB residents. Neha sengupta (Chrishitta Bhatt), a young aspring journalist, comes up with a novel idea of giving Bahul a punishment that would change him for better; not only she encourages the judges to think differently but she also follows Rahul to the old-age home to document his transformation, if at all it happens. At the old-age home--Ashiyana, situated at a picturesque landscape, rahul meets many old people who're unable to adjust. Rahul does what he is best at -- causing trouble to the innocent residents. But unlike usually frail, depressed and discarded old people, the residents there are a fun loving lot who believe that their is the golden age. Admist them is Prajapati (Amrish Puri) who takes instant dislike to Rahul; they clash all the time making each other's life hell. Many years ago one rich old man, Mr Pandit, had donated his entire fortune to build and maintain Ashiyana. But the caretaker convives with a builder and hatches a plot to take over the old-age home with the help of a forged will to build a holiday resort. He asks the residents to vacate the place immediately. Finally, Rahul learns from the old members and his lady love Neha. With all the support to save Ashiyana he chooses to fight Saifuddin (Tinnu anand) who had kept the papers with him. He finally reunites with his family. The film is a tribute to parents without whose constant care you would not have survived even an hour in this world!
