Shashi Kapoor, in the history of his film-career, had never been so serious as he was in "The New Delhi Times". The film was directed by Ramesh Shama. Here, Shashi Kapoor is an honest journalist who has to face different odds while bringing the merciless evils of the high profiles to light. A tragic event of burning a man alive makes the honest journalist rebel. Shashii here gives his best, mainly while exposing how tormented he is in this system. Sharmla Tagore as his wife is equally brilliant.

Shashi Kapoor produced "Vijeta"which was directed by Govind Nihalni, whose name is prononced next to Syam Benegal. The plot of the story pivots round the mental anguish of parents acted by Shashi and Rekha over their son

"Vijeta"is a very serious film in which it is shown how parental straining nerves act upon the issue. Shashi introduced his own son. Both Shashi and Rekha were superb. This film too is an evident of Shashi's serious approach.

Shashi Kapoor and Syam Benegal stood in a body to make a film "Junoon"based on the novel "Flight of the Pegeon"by Ruskin Bond. The film produced by Shashi had big star cast including Shabana Azmi and Nasiruddin Khan. Javed Khan acted by Shashi Kapoor falls in love with an English girl. As the story dates back to the Great Revolt of 1885 and the Khans are the rebels such love cannot be acknowledged. Finally, Shashi's love remains unrequtted. In this film too Shashi appears quite different .

Shashi had ever been treasuring a desire to create movies off the convention. He probed into the antique past and chose to translate the classic Sanskrit play "Mrichhakatikam" by Sudraka into movie. He put Girish Karnad as the director and Rekha as Basantsena, the protagonist and Sekhar Suman as the male-lead. The public-acceptibility of the film was a question, as the story dates back to the Gupta Age of Indian history. Shashi had the guts to spend millions on this. Creativity surpasses all.

Shashi Kapoor had profound depth that usually lay enveloped by his external raptures and youthful pranks. "Siddharth" was a film made from the Nobel-winner novel by Herman Hess. Shashi portrays the role of a youth who leaves domestic life and takes to sannyas or renunciation. The young Siddharth (the name is symbolic to Lord Buddha) comes to contact with a courtesan (Simi Garewal) who teaches him physical love. Shashi has aptly manifested his moral dilemma. Hollywood's vision was different .

Whenever Shashi Kapoor was paired with Amitabh Bachhan as brothers, the former was, invariably younger than the latter. It was because of Shashi's younger looks and youthful vigour that would brilliantly befit Amit's younger brother. "Trishul","Shaan" and "Dewaar" are the vivid specimens, though the fact is Shashi is older than Amitabh. Salim-Javed had realised Amitabh's gravity and Shashi's gleefulness and portraied them accordingly. People have relentlessly accepted the portraiture effusively.

If questioned, what had made the girls so big fans of Shashi ? The answer is "childlike innocence compounded with infantile impishness". In "Jab Jab Phool Khile"Shashi looked a real Kashmiri youth, so innocent and docile with dynamism and sportiveness. He sings to Nanda "Ek tha gul aur ek thi bulbul"and unbosoms his feelings that moisten Nanda's eyes. In another scene, when Shashi derives the gusto of love for the first time, in a frolic move he bursts "Appu Khuda !" Fusion of soft and spurt.

Shashi Kapoor had prolonged theatre background that virtually eased his acting capabilities on screen. He used to be in the theater troupe of his father-in law when he courted Jennifer. In an interview Shashi said "I had to learn King's English and Queen's English, as the plays were of Shakespeare".. It was during his theatre days he came across Utpal Dutt, who happened to be in the same group. Merchant Ivory made an English movie "Shakespearwalla"in which Shashi's role was akin to his life.

Shashi Kapoor worked with Bimal Roy in only one film - Prem Patra (1962). His daughter Rinki was in such awe of the actor that she did her only hairdo of her life during the premiere of this movie, just to impress Shashi Kapoor.

During mid 70's, Shashi Kapoor used to sign too many films at a stretch (probably never refused any offer), that he just used to continuously shuttle across the sets of those films for shooting. For this Raj Kapoor used to call him as a "Taxi".
