Shibaji Chattopadhyay Was born in Mohanbagan Lane,Kolkata 3rd January. His family was a cultural family. His father was a Lawyer. He passed B.Sc from Madhyamgram College. He got talim from Sushil Mukherjee and Prabodh Bhattacharya.
Early life was a copy singer of Hemanta Mukherjee. Then he got chance for singing in Radio and Doordarshan.His first record comes out from Gathani Records in the year 1982.The music director Ajoy Das Gave him the chance for playback for the film Bichar. Music director Ajoy Das helped him a lot. Sibaji sang many songs under his music direction. After his first record he got a chance to record for HMV for Adhunik and Rabindrasangeet. Shibaji sang under the music direction of Hemanta Mukherjee, Shyamal Mitra, Salil Choudhury, Mrinal Bandopadhay, Nita Sen, Asima Mukherjee and Bappi Lahiri.
Shibaji recorded more than 300 songs. He sang for the film “1942 a Love story” under the direction of R.D. Barman that the song was “Yeh safar hai”. He also sang for the Hindi Film Gudgudie. In Bengali Films he sang for ‘Samapti’, “Mamata”, “Shapmukti”. In Bhalobasa Bhalobasa he sang a super hit song Khonpar Oi Golap in 1985. The director of the film was Tarun Majumdar. His songs were hit in the films Path Bhola, Agaman, Sajani Go Sajani, Sremati Hangsha Raj. He sang duet with Hamanta, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle also in the film Anjali. He gave music for the films Aalo, Bhalobasar Onek Naam, Chander Bari. He got BFJA award for four times. He also got the Mumbai Film industry “New talent Award. He is the key person of APPS which is a Welfare Association for the singers. He got inniciative for sangeet mela. He married renowned singer Arundhati Hom Choudhury in 1987.
