Roshan Ahuja, popularly known as Shiney Ahuja is an Indian actor. Shiney Ahuja is the son of an army commander and was born in New Delhi. He graduated from R. V. College of Engineering, Bangalore with a specialization in Computer Science and Engineering. Though joining the armed forces was his ambition initially, he got attracted to theatre and he joined Barry Johns acting School in Delhi, before moving to Mumbai. Before making his debut in films, Shiney did modelling and some commercial adverts for Cadbury, Park Avenue, Raymonds, but it was Peter England shirts that gave face value to Shiney. He then appeared in a music video for the British Asian band Stereo Nation. He is married to Anupam Pandey nee Anu Ahuja from Delhi, of mixed UP-Bihari descent. They have a daughter together, born in 2007.
Shiny joined Mahesh Dattani s workshop to brush up his acting skills. He signed up for Sins directed by Vinod Pandey as his debut project; the movie gave rise to controversies as he played the role of a Church priest who has a sexual relation with a younger woman. Shinys second movie was Kal directed by Ruchi Narayan; the two were also romantically linked. Sudhir Mishras and Hazar Khwashion Aisi made the audiences sit up and take notice of Shinys talent. He however grew more familiar with mainstream audiences with Karam (2005), where he starred alongside John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. His biggest breakthrough though, came with Mahesh Bhatt’s Gangster, and the movie made him a star.
Shiny Ahuja is regarded as one of the rising stars in Bollywood, but his image is that not of an characteristic commercial hero, who can dance and does a lot of action action; so Shiny ends up getting more mature roles, but that gives him an opportunity to display his acting skills. His other releases in 2006 like Woh Lamhe brought out variety in his roles. The film was based on the real-life story on the romance between Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt and the late actress Parveen Babi, the 1970s glamour girl.
Shiny did a music video for Stereo Nation and was spotted in that by Farhan Akhtar, who asked him to audition for Dil Chatha Hai. Shiny bagged a role in the movie, but could not do it due to some unknown reasons. His release in 2006 was Woh Lamhe which was critically acclaimed and did moderately at the box office. His third release Zindaggi Rocks did not do much in the box office. His first 2007 film Life In A... Metro' opposite Shilpa Shetty picked up after a slow start and became a box office hit. His recent releases were Bhool Bhulaiya which has been very successful at the box office and Khoya Khoya Chand which failed to do well.
He won the IIFA Awards: Best Actor (Critics) for Gangster in 2007 and nominated for the Filmfare Award Best Villain for the same. He also won the Filmfare Best Debut for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi(2003).
