Shweta Pandit is one of the leading young genration Indian playback singers. She was born on July 6, 1986. Belonging to the MEWATI GHARANA of music, Shweta is the 4th generation of vocalists in her family of great music maestros. She is the grand daughter of well-known classical vocalist Pandit Pratap Narayan. She was trained by her grand father and father Vishwaraj Pandit. She is the niece of well-known music directors Jatin-Lalit and the grand-niece of Pandit Jasraj, a renowned Indian classical vocalist. Her sister Shraddha Pandit is also a playback singer.
Shweta did her schooling from Utpal Shanghvi School in Mumbai and graduated from the Mithibai College, Mumbai.
She started early in the world of playback singing from the tender age of 4 with Mani Ratnam’s south Indian super successful film ‘ANJALI’ with the title song dubbed in Hindi. She got her first big leading break with YASH RAJ FILMS with Aditya Chopra’s ‘MOHABBATEIN’with 5 songs at the age of 12.
Her Debut Record Album Main Zindagi Hoon released when she was only 16 years old with Virgin Records, India. Her other albums include Aplam Chaplam - the Star Mix featuring Superstar, Salman Khan in the Music Video. SHWETA’S first Reality Television Show – MISSION USTAAD on 9x, was a unique show Produced by the United Nations and judged by Music Maestro AR RAHMAN and JAVED AKHTAR. The show was one of the biggest television series presented by the United Nations and had accomplished singers from Bollywood performing together for various causes for the United Nations. Shweta is also the voice in the Indian released version of the very popular Disney Film, High School Musical Part 1 and 2.
Her other films include Fight Club, Agyaat, Fast Forward, Gayab, Aetbaar, Nayee Padosan, Haasil, Rudraksh, RGV Ki Aag, Kaash Mere Hote, Deshdrohi, James, Phoonk, The Perfect Husband, Dil Kya Kare, Julie, Soch, Stumped, Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai and many more.
Shweta recently won the Prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer (Telugu) for the Film 'Kotha Bangaru Lokam' for the Super Hit Song 'Nenani Neevani' on 31st July 2009, in Hyderabad. She has also sung for Telugu movies like "Kotha Bangaru Lokam", "Allari Bullodu" and "Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw" and many more.
Her devotional albums titled 'Mahalakshmi' with Shree Pandit Jasraj, 'Dashavatar' with Ratan Mohan, 'Ganesha' with Shankar Mahadevan & Sukh Samruddhi Suraksha with Shrradha Pandit, are some of the
highest selling devotional albums from Times Music.
Shweta has also featured in the Coke Commercial [TVC] in 2009 featuring Cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Directed by acclaimed director Dibakar Banerjee. She has also featured on the cover of Rave Magazine in 2008, as one of the youngest achievers in Bollywood music.
