Shyam Laha was one of the early days actors in Bengali cinema, was born on 26th November 1911 in Kolkata. His full name was Shyamchandra Laha and nickname was Jadunath Laha. Before adoption his real name was Kashinath Sheel. Shyam Laha passed his matriculation from Bangabashi Collegiate School. He took his further education from famous musician Timir Baran.
Shyam once played the tabla in a function held in Lucknow Bengali Club, there he met with Pahadi Sanyal. He introduced Shyam Laha with director Promothesh Barua. But he got the first break in Debi Kumar Basu’s ‘Chandidas’. Apart from comedian, he was also casted as a lead actor in some movies. He was actively involved in theatres and in radio theatres etc. Shyam Laha passed away on 25th October 1973.
