Somnath Sen who has always made films with social messages has also made his latest film Seemanto Periye with a social message. His previous films which tried to reflect on the problems of people during old age and also showed how selfish the present generation has become shows that all human beings are equal irrespective of race, religion, caste and creed. It shows the mindset of the people towards an India which previously comprised of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh but now all of them are different countries. It shows how all of them still feel that they belong to one country and things would have been much better had the country not been divided and all these differences not been created. It shows us the attitude of the villagers towards Shakina when she lands up at the retired postmaster’s house and it‘s not only a difference of country, but also of religion. That is their main problem, however all their protests are in vain when she gets married to Nayan and there is peace in the village.
Somanath Sen has got a good supporting cast although the people playing the lead roles are never known names. At times the problem with his films are that they become too preachy .The female lead role in the film is played by Srabanti Malakar(not too confused with the reigning queen of Tollywood, just her namesake) and she looks just like another actress Pushpita Mukherjee who incidentally also features in the film.
