The film is about an illiterate village girl kamala (manjusree) whose parents die in a tragedy and she is brought up by her uncle, the priest of the village temple (sukhen das). Her uncle wants to get her named off as even his wife cannot stand kamala, but money becomes a problem. On the day of the marriage, the bridegroom (debdut ghosh) is taken away before the marriage starts by his father as the girl’s uncle (sukhen das) is unable to give the dowry money. It is ananda (tapan pal). Who steps in as her saviour and names her. On the night of the marriage, he realizes he has made a mistake by morning an illiterate girl. He reaches her to her uncle’s place and promises to come but never to return. She goes to kolkata with her cousin in search of her husband and she is saved from goons who were molesting her by police other adarsha (ranjit mallick), who in reality is ananda’s elder brother. He takes kamala to her house and asks her to stay there till the time she finds her husband. She is treated as a member of the family by everyone other then koyeli (locket chatterjee), who is ananda’s second wife. She is wicked women in every which way and she has actually been planted there by abinash (bur brother played by biplab chatterjee) who is every the family property of ananda. The rest of the family members don’t get to know kamala’s real identity till the end of the film. Ananda again comes back to kamala and he is spotted holidaying in digha with kamala by his younger brother akash (abhishek chatterjee) who also happened to be there at the same time. In the end during climax koyeli gets shot accidentally by her brother and koyeli passes away. Ananda and kamala are united in front of everyone and the film ends there.
