“When Entertainment is King…. Box Office Sing’s”..
Entertainment is what we all need at end of the day. Everyone has their own taste of entertainment. But on mass basis movies are the biggest entertainment in our country. From decades movies with masala entertainment have worked, entertained and will work for more decades. “Singh is King” is nothing but a perfect Recipe of masala entertainment full with ingredients like action, comedy, drama, romance, emotion, dance and a Big tadka of Akshay Kumar.
‘Singh is King’ is a story of Lucky [Sonu Sood], the King of underworld in Australia rules with support of his fellow mates [Neha Dhupia, Javed Jaffrey, Sudhanshu Pande, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Manoj Pahwa]. Lucky’s news of crime reaches his village in Punjab, where the villagers are fed up of Village Bumpkin Happy Singh [Akshay Kumar]. The villagers plot to send Happy along with his friend Rangeela [Om Puri] to Australia and get Lucky home. Happy as usual does a blunder and accidentally lands in Egypt where he meets Sonia [Katrina Kaif]. With memories of Sonia he finally reaches Lucky’s den, where lucky and his fellow mates does not support happy and Rangeela. But fate has its own tale, Lucky gets injured in an assassination and is saved by Happy. This leads happy to be “King” and lead Lucky’s empire. Will Happy go on the crime path or achieve what he had planned out.
Pritam’s music matches perfectly with the mood and demand of the movie. It has everything from bhangra number to romantic track. All songs like “Bhootni ke”, “teri ore” “Jee Karda” except the last Javed Jaffery song [which can be edited as does not gel with the movie at all] are great.
Film runs on the thin plot as major of masala movie run. But it’s the treatment which counts in such movies. First half of the movie is excellent with loads of entertainment. But in second half it slows down a bit, without affecting the mood of the film. Climax was bit let down but again with an excellent dialog in the end Akki steals the show. On Negative side this movie has many cinematic liberties and loopholes. Continuity is also a big problem in the film. The looks of lead characters keep changing and do not match with the earlier ones.
Director Anees Bazmee’s Last movies were out and out comedy, so one does expect SIK to be a comedy. But SIK is not an out and out comedy, it a total masala entertainment. On one place you have Anees’s touch another you can find Vipul Shah’s touch also. Though the combination of both could had been much better than this product. Anees direction is grand and it shows on the screen too. Viewers will get good visual as well as entertainment treat. If only the flow of entertainment was bit more in second half and Pre Climax, the movie would had been much greater.
On the performance side… Akshay Rocks the movie. He is truly a king of entertainment. The mass appeal is huge. Movie and role suits him perfectly. He is sweet and lovable as Happy the village bumpkin and on other side smart and Romantic as the King. His comical timing, emotional scenes are the best. His dialog in climax will go great with the masses. Katrina is perfect for her part and added freshness to the screen whenever she came. Like Namaste London this part also suited her perfectly. Sonu Sood looked smart and did his job comfortably. Om Puri was great. Neha was wasted and had hardly anything to add. Manoj, Yashpal added the positive side. Ranvir was ok, not a role he can boost out. Javed Jaffery could had been more better.
So….”bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum???”
Kaafi Dum hain, Akshay to Dumdaar hain. Only if the second half was bit more interesting and good climax would had added more fun the fun filled movie. But despite all these the movie had loads of entertainment from start till the end credits. As said earlier entertainment is what every one needs, and when entertainment is of king size…the box office register Sing’s.
