The all adorable Sleuth Feluda was brought alive on celluloid by Satyajit Ray in 1974. The film (like the novel) became a rage & acquired the status of a cult film in the history of global cinema. Ray selected the story “SONAR KELLA” for his first Feluda film & it came out to become a visual extravaganza. The narration, the camera work, the sets & the performances of the actors, rocked the audiences of their feet. Be it the outdoor shots of Rajasthan or the inherent takes in Kolkata, “Sonar Kella” was a story of success right from the word go. Ashok Basu’s art work & Soumendu Roy’s camera remains a priviledge to experience. The film was financed by West Bengal govt & the music (a huge hit too) was woven by Ray himself. Though the story was altered slightly for celluloid depiction, audiences didn’t mind it at all. Soumitra as Feluda, Santosh Dutta as Jatayu & Sidhartha Chatterjee as Topshe made an unforgettable team. Kushal Chakraborty, Kamu Mukhopadhyay, Ajoy Bandopadhyay & Sailen Mukherjee depicted defiant character roles. The film was distributed by Chhayabani Pvt Ltd. A must watch!
